Implant Retained Prostheses

About Implant-Retained Dentures

Full or partial dentures can be used to replace missing teeth. While these devices made be designed to look natural, many patients feel that these types of dentures shift or fall out of their mouths at the worst possible moments. Even patients who have become used to their dentures over time may still experience situations in which the position of the dentures suddenly changes.

There is an option to restore missing teeth with a device that will stay in place: an implant-retained prosthesis or implant-retained denture. If you would like to consider the placement of an implant-retained prosthesis, call Tidewater Prostho at 757-595-0496 to schedule an appointment with our prosthodontist.

What are Implant-Retained Dentures?

An implant is the titanium post that is surgically placed in a dental patient's jawbone to hold replacement teeth. One or multiple implants can be installed along a patient's jaw, depending on the number of teeth that need to be replaced. Once the bone and gum tissue has grown and healed around the surgically placed implant, your prosthodontist can place a permanent full or partial denture that will be rooted in place. Implant-retained dentures are kept secure by the metal implants that have fused with the jawbone, so there is no concern about them moving or falling.
